HD53LS is a 2-axis ultrasonic static anemometer for measuring:

  • Wind speed and direction, U-V Cartesian components of wind speed.
  • Wind Gust (only in version with RS485 MODBUS-RTU output).

The average of wind speed and direction over a period configurable up to 10 minutes is calculated.

Two versions are available:

  • HD53LS.A: with two analog outputs (one for wind speed and one for wind direction), factory configurable among 4…20 mA (standard), 0…1 V, 0…5 V, 0…10 V (to be specified when ordering).
  • HD53LS.S: with RS485 MODBUS-RTU output.

This feature completely eliminates sparksand excessive friction or wear. Power to the heaters is supplied via a rotarytransformer, with 26 kHz low-EMI sine wave. An intelligent heating controlcircuitry is included with integral sensors for both ambient and internal
temperature. Therefore, there is no need for a separate temperature sen-sor in the system. Power consumption, typically 72 watts, is very low con-sidering the heating efficiency and the protection against freezing provided.
Approximately 50 watts of the power is on the cup wheel, 12 watts on theshaft and bearings, and 10 watts on the body. Hence also the sensor body
is kept free of ice, which is important for maintaining the gauge’s aerody-namic performance.

The instruments of the series HD52.3D… are 2 axes ultrasonic static anemometers for measuring

  • Wind speed and direction, U-V Cartesian components of wind speed
  • Wind Gust – Measurement available only with MODBUS-RTU and SDI-12 protocols
  • Relative Humidity and Temperature (optional),
  • Global Solar Radiation (optional)
  • Barometric pressure (optional)
  • Rainfall (optional)

The “Rainfall” and “Global solar radiation” options are alternatives (they can not be both present in the same instrument).

All models are equipped with a magnetic compass.

The avarage of wind speed and direction over a period configurable up to 10 mins is calculated.

RS232, RS485, RS422 and SDI-12 serial interfaces are available with NMEA, MODBUS-RTU and SDI-12 communication protocols. All versions have two analog outputs, both for wind speed and for direction, factory configurable among 4÷20mA (standard), 0÷1V, 0÷5V, 0÷10V (to be specified when ordering).

The family of transmitters series HD29… are employed in the control of air speed in the air conditioning and ventilation (HVAC / BEMS) in the pharmaceutical, museum, clean rooms, ventilation ducts, industrial sectors and households, crowded places, cafeterias, auditoriums, gymnasiums or on farms with large numbers of animals.

The sensors in combination with an accurate electronics guarantee precise and reliable measurements in the time.

The sensor for the air speed is thin film, the probe sheath is AISI304, the filter relative humidity of 20μ wire mesh, materials that allow the use in hostile areas.

There are two possible installations: in the TO version, the horizontal probe is joined to the electronics enclosure while in the TC version the probe is conconnected to the electronics through a cable. In the TO version, the duct probe is fixed to the electronics enclosure and it is available in three different lengths. To fix the probe to the duct, you can use, for example, the HD9008.31 flange, a 3/8” universal biconical connection or a PG16 metal cable gland (∅10…14mm). In the TC version, the probe together with the sensors is equipped with a cable which can be 2, 5 or 10 meters long.

The probes are available in different lengths.

The reliability of the wind monitor sensor is well known. Thesensitive vane and propeller combination has proven effective forcountless applications in many disciplines.The Wind Monitor-HD Alpine combines the features of the HeavyDuty unit along with the ice-resistant coating of our popular AlpineWind Monitor. The HD utilizes extremely long-wearing, oversizeceramic bearings to increase service life of standard stainlesssteel bearings. Bearings have light contacting teflon seals andare filled with a low torque wide temperature range grease to helpexclude contamination and moisture. In addition to being morewear resistant, ceramic is resistant to corrosion in the most hostileenvironments.The Wind Monitor-HD Alpine also has an oversized propellershaft , high pitch propeller, and a locking propeller nut. The mainhousing, nose cone, propeller, and other internal parts are injectionmolded U.V. Stabilized plastic. All external housing surfacesare coated with a specially formulated, ice-resistant coating toimprove performance in harsh alpine conditions. Both the propellerand vertical shafts use ceramic ball bearings. Bearings havelight contacting teflon seals and are filled with a low torque widetemperature range grease to help exclude contamination andmoisture.Propeller rotation produces an AC sine wave signal with frequencyproportional to wind speed. This AC signal is induced in astationary coil by a six pole magnet mounted on the propeller shaft.Three complete sine wave cycles are produced for each propellerrevolution.Vane position is transmitted by a 10K ohm precision conductiveplastic potentiometer which requires a regulated excitation voltage.With a constant voltage applied to the potentiometer, the outputsignal is an analog voltage directly proportional to azimuth angle.The instrument mounts on standard one inch pipe, outsidediameter 34 mm (1.34"). An orientation ring is provided so theinstrument can be removed for maintenance and reinstalled withoutloss of wind direction reference. Both mounting post assembly andorientation ring are secured to the mounting pipe by stainless steelband clamps. A 3 meter (9.8 ft) pigtail cable assembly is suppliedfor electrical connections. For longer cable lengths a user suppliedjunction box or connector may be used. A variety of devices areavailable for signal conditioning, display, and recording of windspeed and direction.
